Aaron Hernandez former tight end for the New England Patriots has been and continues to be held behind bars without bail at the Bristol County Jail in connections with Odin Lloyd’s murder.
Hernandez has not been proven guilty of first degree murder yet he has been locked in a 7-foot-by-10 foot solitary confinement cell with little or no human contact for over 20 hours a day. He has been in police custody since being taken from his house in handcuffs on June 26, 2013 and is scheduled to remain in custody until his Probable Cause Hearing on August 22, 2013.
As the prosecutors continues to gather and build their case against Hernandez; many argue that the information being released to the media is only jeopardizing the ability for Hernandez to receive a fair trial.
Hernandez attorney Michel Fee said, “Over the past week, our client, Aaron Hernandez, has been the subject of a relentless flood of rumors, misinformation, and false reports in the media. These include the repeated publication of a supposedly confirmed report that an arrest warrant had been issued for Aaron, a report that was exposed as untrue. None of these false reports come from official sources and we appreciate the professionalism and restraint shown by the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office to date with regard to its public statement while its investigation is underway.”
Prosecutors asked the judge to deny Hernandez bail due to photos published by TMZ where Hernandez poses with a hand gun. Prosecutors used the photo explaining that the photo indicated that Hernandez lived a reckless thug life.
My view point is that as an American Hernandez has a freedom to bare arm so due to owning a firearm should not automatically conclude that he must be a killer because at the end of the day he is innocent until proven guilty. And if Hernandez were any other person he would have been given bail and given the opportunity to wait in the presents of their own home until the prosecutors were ready to convict him.
The second thing that makes me very disgusted by the case is the way the New England Patriots and University of Florida is reacting to the questioning of Hernandez. The Patriots waited nearly half an hour after Hernandez being arrested to drop him from his football contract. What will happen if Hernandez is proven innocent of murder? Will the Patriots resign Hernandez?
Although, I disagree how the Patriots reacted; the actions made by University of Florida made me disgusted. Hernandez played three seasons for the UF Gators from 2007-2009 going on and winning a national championship and in addition earning the First Team All-American honor in 2009. So like every All-American Gator Hernandez had a brick with his name and year honored outside the football facility. However, on June 25, 2013 University of Florida had Hernandez brick removed and replaces with a blank brick.
I understand that the university does not support murders at any level but let’s just remember that Hernandez has NOT BEEN PROVEN GUILTY and remains innocent. What make me disgusted about this issue is whether or not Hernandez is a murderer today his accomplishment he achieved 4 years ago while in college should not be taken away from him. Being proven guilty or not guilty of murder Hernandez will always be the 2009 University Of Florida Football First Team All-American.
I now do not want to forget that in all this crazy drama a human life has been taken away. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Odin Lloyd’s family and friends. As much as I want his family to receive justice for this murder we also need to understand that Aaron Hernandez is American and has the right for a fair trial.
I will continue to follow this case and will update you with any further news.
